“LJBF” – in a TEXT!

Q: My boyfriend of 5 years just broke up with me. It feels like a mini end-of-the-world! He has been my best friend since I met him 7 years ago, and he broke up with me in a text. A text! I don’t understand, and my heart is breaking.

I’m so sorry that you’re hurting right now, sis! I definitely know how it feels to break up with someone you have shared so much life with. It can feel like a divorce in a lot of ways.

I can totally understand why you’d feel hurt, betrayed and confused by the sudden breakup. It’s going to take time to sort through all of those feelings, but best news for me is to hear that you love God and want to have a ever-deepening relationship with Him! Because if God is #1 in your life, He can use the pain you’re feeling to draw you closer to Him. Your Savior wants to be the one you run to right now-He  wants to be the shoulder you cry on! I’ve been through some pretty devastating break-ups, and Psalm 34 sums up God’s care for those who are hurting. If you have a Bible, please read it before you go to bed tonight! (Please, please, please! lol) In it God says that He will answer you when you call to Him, and He will free you from your fears. It says that those who look to God will literally SHINE with joy because even in our darkest moments, God surrounds and defends those who honor Him. Here are just a few more verses from Psalm 34 to whet your appetite:

“The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help… The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. The righteous person faces many troubles,  but the Lord comes to the rescue each time. For the Lord protects the bones of the righteous; not one of them is broken!” (vv. 15-20)

Feeling brokenhearted? Spirit crushed? Facing some serious troubles? Then you’re in a perfect position to watch the God of the universe do what He does best: Rescue you, love you, teach you and restore you! That’s why King David (who wrote Psalm 34) can write in verse 8, “Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh the joys of those who take refuge in him!” Trust me, David knew all about betrayal! He knew about heartbreak and even danger. Yet He also knew firsthand that those who cling to God when we’re at our lowest points in life are the very people who will taste and see how GOOD God is! God will never betray you, never fail you, never stop loving you. No matter what the future holds with your ex, the sun will shine again in your life as long as you trust God.

I hope that helps a little, sis! I promise to pray for you in the next few days as you heal and seek God. Please know that I’m here for you if you want to talk more about any of this, or just need some encouragement!

Much love,
